As a gamer myself, I shall try to announce and review both new and older games for their popularity and appropriateness. Feel free to suggest any that you would like to see played at the library on our gaming nights! I will be reviewing games that are rated T and under; although games like Halo and Call of Duty are rated M and are played here occasionally. For this reason, a permission slip must be signed by a parent or guardian before attending one of these events.
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe: Rated T (Xbox 360)
Good fighting game; a little bloody, but not over the top. The violence of Mortal Kombat is toned down for this one. There are still fatalities, but again, not nearly as bad as a pure Mortal Kombat game. Good variety of characters, and easy to pick up the different moves without much practice. Recommended.
Super Street Fighter IV: Rated T (Xbox 360)
Another good fighting game. The characters are a bit over the top as far as how they are designed (in my opinion), but all the fun that SF fans have come to expect. Highly Recommended
Coming soon to Nintendo 3DS: Street Fighter vs. Tekken!
Forza 3: Rated E (Xbox 360)
An amazing racing game. The tracks are difficult, but there is an option to have a "ghost" line ahead of you; to show you when to brake, accelerate, etc. I love how many different cars there are that you can win in races, and there are plenty of "Achievements" for those obsessed with ramping up your gamer score.
Epic Mickey: Rated E (Wii)
Although filled with Disney characters, there is appeal in the creative abilities, and alternate universes. Not unlike other RPG's, but this one has more universal appeal.
Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC-online-T)
As the Star Wars: Galaxies MMORPG went offline forever, this much anticipated game came online. The ability to create different character classes, either light side or dark side, with many different storylines, makes this one of the biggest releases of the year. Unfortunately, it is subscription based (monthly fee) at this time, but so is World of Warcraft....which is coming soon with it's own new content.
Mario Kart 7: Rated E (3DS)
The newest entry in the super popular racing series with Nintendo's base characters is basically what is what kept the 3DS from completely failing upon release. The new abilities to fly, and other upgrades, makes this game eagerly anticipated. The 3D graphics are used to great effect. The other Mario Game, Super Mario 3DS, has also contributed to the 3DS's survival.
